Humility
If you are headstrong, opinionated, and independent like I am, you know that humility does not come easy. Pride is a powerful drug. The road to humility is a rugged road.
Jesus teaching in the Sermon on the Mount explains that humility is counterintuitive. It’s a U-turn right in the middle of our thinking. “Those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
Throughout Scripture we see a connection between men and nations mourning over their destruction brought on by pride and we see humble men and nations receiving God’s blessing.
I. Peter 5:5-6
“Be clothed in humility, for God resist/opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time.”
Humility is put it on like a coat; wear it everywhere you go.
I don’t know about you but I don’t want God to resist what I’m doing. I don’t want God to oppose me. I want him to bless me, don’t you?
You may ask, how do I humble myself?
It’s a process. It’s taking the low road;
1. You confess your sin.
2. You give sacrificially and anonymously.
3. You treat others better than you treat yourself.
4. You ask for help.
