The Great Outdoors

The outdoors is a tool God uses to draw men to himself. My life certainly has been changed by my time in the wilderness. I can recall many instances of seeking God while alone in the outdoors. A man’s spiritual growth comes from spending time with God, be it in church, in a small group Bible study, or alone in God’s great outdoor church. While time in the outdoors is certainly not a replacement for regular attendance in a strong, Bible teaching church, we can grow spiritually wherever we seek after God.

It’s my prayer that the blog entries, and examples I gather on my adventures will offer proof of a Creator, and will inspire others to seek after God. Adventure offers opportunities for spiritual development, be it through fellowship with other believers, time spent in prayer, or trail time study from God’s word.

In his Outdoor Leadership blog Ashley Denton says, “Over 100 times in the Bible the text explicitly identifies lives being changed because of a wilderness journey. Noah, Moses, Elijah, and Jesus all spent days in wilderness environments. Jesus shows us that the wilderness is a place where God gets our attention.”

The mission of Rugged Faith Ministries is to offer men opportunities to experience God in the great outdoors. Our weekend retreats blend outdoor adventure activities and sound biblical teaching. We call it “Adventure with a Purpose;” that purpose being to call men to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
